Todor Angelov is the winner of the 7th edition of the WTI 2014-2015 with gains of 259.65 %. Todor is senior business analyst at ICAP Bulgaria and has a Master of Science Finance and a Master of Arts from the University of Kentucky. He has managed through the past 12 months a portfolio of stocks, CFDs and Forex and maintained a high ratio of winning trades with a systematic approach. His account has averaged 21 round turns in the most active months that have generated net profits of $ 9 577.82 from an account that started with $ 3 688.71.
Todor Angelov is the participant that ran a $ 3 688.71 account to $13 266.53 for the extraordinary net return of 259.65% in 12 months.
The second place and winner of the Spanish League is David Mora Lopez with gains of 100,77%. These are extraordinary performances in a very difficult year from markets which have been impacted by the Swiss Central Bank event in January that affected all forex traders, and eliminated a huge quantity of participants in the WTI because of leverage. The August market correction was another blood bath for participants trusting the support of Central Banks. The result is an enormous amount of people with losses in the market and losses in the WTI competition.
We would like to congratulate the performance of the winner of the Spanish League David Mora Lopez and the winner of the WTI 2014-2015 Todor Angelov.
This week seismic market volatility did not remove Todor Angelov from the first place. Although coming from gains of 261% to 124% he never lost his first place and started since to recover.

interview with Todor Angelov - the current leader of the WTI for the Bulgarian magazine for traders: http://trade4win.info by Stefan Trashliev
months after the start of World Top Investor 2014-2015 the Bulgarian trader Todor
Angelov is at the top of the charts, almost since the beginning of the
competition. Todor often attends the Trader’s club of Karoll Brokerage and spoke
about his trading style. I now know that he prefers fundamental analysis and
tends to hold positions for long periods of time – months and sometimes even
years. Curiously, Todor relies on consulting with a trusted friend who is a
technical analyst regarding the entry points of his positions. His ‘’kind’’
assistant tracks the support and resistance levels in the markets.
During a conversation with Todor Angelov we tried to find out more about his
way of trading, which is far from typical in comparison to the majority of
other Bulgarian traders.
normal trading style different from the one you use to compete in the World Top
No, I trade the same way. Frankly, in the beginning I even forgot the fact I
was part of a competition. A few months after the start I even went to withdraw
money from my account, which a competitor can´t. It was staff from my brokerage
Karoll that reminded me that this would violate the rules of WTI and
automatically disqualified me. It was this way that I found out that I was
second or third place in the world ranking of the WTI. This motivated me to
carry on and even… I became little more conservative especially because of the

I check and
consider my account performance every day and then I take my trading decisions.
However, I don’t look at the ranking in WTI website that often (laughing). To
be honest, I am proud that I succeed up until now to maintain the highest gains.
On the other hand, I try to disregard this fact in order not to spoil my
Tell us something more about your method of analysis and about the
information you keep in mind when trading.
I follow and
trade the main commodities, gold, silver, oil and about 20 major currencies. I
keep track of the overall performance of the markets in Asia, Europe and US,
the main indexes in Australia, USA and Europe, as well as some particular
stocks from their components. In my
opinion this forms the fundamentals that make the markets move, and my goal is
to grab the long term trends.
Which instruments you use to take advantage of these long term trends?
use the commodities directly, but choose companies instead, which I think would
be influenced heavily by these trends. I trade with CFDs on stocks to get
leverage and also indexes.
So you open trades with targets that lie months ahead?
What I do
is manage the position by reducing or increasing its size depending on the
markets. However, the core of the position stays open for months or sometimes
over a year.
Share with us how you take your decisions regarding your open trades. Does
the chart provide you signals or is it all about the current condition of your
account, as you mentioned earlier?
I use both of them. Especially when you trade with various types of instruments
with leverage, you should always pay attention at the current situation of the
account and the amount of free funds. This is exactly why I check my account
relatively often, despite the fact that I only trade once a week sometimes even
less. The leverage effect can be an advantage, but in the same time it can be
dangerous and bring not only big profits, but also heavy losses to your
account. This is why you can’t ignore the current trend, and the margin
coverage with free funds.
According to your opinion, where is the balance between the pursuit of
profit and staying aside of high risk taking?
I like taking higher risks, but after 7-8 years experience in trading everybody
comes up with some base strategies, especially when people track the main
assets in the market.
Is the trading your main profession and do you think a man can rely on
trading for a living?
Currently it isn’t but I hope it’s going to be very soon.

worse with risk parity generating big drawdowns. The risk payoff for taking

Something all short term forex traders should do.

he, like a lot of people lost all the money.

Trading a real account is better than trading a simulated account when you are trying to identify real traders and real investors. Wouldn't it be better and smarter to select a portfolio manager based on performance rather than a fancy pitch?

Mr Olchawa strategy for the contest was trading only EUR/USD looking for opportunities of strong breakouts from side trends.
Mr Paweł Olchawa, the leader of WTI edition comes from Poland, and has only been an active investor for a couple of years in his own words.
Professionally he is a programmer and algorithms designer.
He started programming when he was 13 years old and at 18 started studying algorithms and competing in programming contests.
As a programmer he was:
- 1st place in IPSC 2005 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Problem_Solving_Contest
- finalist of Google Code Jam 2005
Code Jam 2005
- 6th place in ACM Central Europe Programming Contest 2004/2005
Later he managed to turn his programming experience into a successful business projectby being the co-founder of the social network nk.pl which competes with the Facebook in Poland.
Mr Olchawa strategy for the contest was trading only EUR/USD looking for opportunities of strong breakouts from side trends. With technical analysis he extracted periods with high probability of strong breakout. Obviously for the competition he played with high leverage using predefined Stop and Profit levels, trying to minimize time when he had open positions. All trades were performed manually.
We spoke with Mariusz Potaczala president of TMS Brokers and a veteran of the markets. Specifically we asked about the changes in market conditions over the years since all participants of the WTI complain about the new reality.
Polish and Spanish investors have benefited from this not so sudden bullmarket being the only two countries populating the top 10 because being reasonably long.
